Campbelltown Hospital

The Emergency Department at Campbelltown is an accredited training site with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine. It is accredited for 12 months as an Urban District Hospital.

Rotations include Anaesthetics, ICU, General Medicine, neonatal medicine/paediatrics and ultrasound special skills.   We have recently been credentialed by ASUM to oversee 10 modules of the CCPU.  Psychiatry rotations are also available.

Formal training in emergency ultrasound outside of the Ultrasound Special Skills Term is available.

$2500 is available per year per registrar to support approved training courses (e.g. EMST, APLS, ultrasound courses).

The department has a mix of Trainees and CMOs and has FACEM support 16 hours per day Monday to Sunday. A consultant is on call at all times to support the Department.

The Emergency Department sees approximately 65,000 adult and paediatric presentations per year with a varied and interesting case mix. It is a busy department and shows significant annual increases in presentation numbers. Admission rate is 37% with the proportion of paediatrics making up 30% of presentations.

A Short Stay Unit has been in operation since November 2015.

Trainees will see a significant number of sick children with excellent support from the Paediatric service. The department also enjoys good relationships with other inpatient specialty units.
The Hospital has all diagnostic services on site including Ultrasound and MRI scanner.

There is an active education program.  Primary candidates have access to a Network-based preparation program with excellent results.  There is protected teaching on a fortnightly basis, with an emphasis on Simulation-based education in a new SIM centre at Macarthur Clinical School (part of WSU).  In addition, there are numerous Network Education Days that trainees are able to attend.  As a consultant group, we are actively involved in all aspects of preparation for the fellowship examination, including statewide days and Network Fellowship days.
