Scholarship priorities

These Travel Incentives are limited and competitive. The following priorities will be used to determine the successful scholarship recipients:

1. Greater priority to the higher the Modified Monash Model Scale of Rurality location: MM3 (low) – MM7 (high). Find Modified Monash Model (MMM) classifications on the Health Workforce Locator.
2. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People relocating to take up employment in any of the identified rural LHD locations. The person must be:
   • Of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
   • Identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and
   • Be recognised and accepted by the Aboriginal community in which they live or work.
3. Employed in a rural area of workforce need.
4. Agreed outcome from review panel assessment of application.
5. Demonstrate intention to remain in the rural NSW Health workforce.
6. Not have received an alternative relocation incentive payment from NSW Health to support this relocation.

Who is eligible?

The New Graduate Nursing and Midwifery Rural Support Incentive applicants must:

1. Be a new graduate registered nurse or midwife who has commenced a graduate position for 2024.
2. Be a new graduate registered nurse or midwife relocating to commence employment in one of the identified LHD locations.
3. Be a new graduate nurse or midwife relocating, if already residing in a rural area, from one rural area to another and taking up employment*.
4. Be able to provide evidence of appointment to a role in a NSW Health local health district with a MM3-MM7 classification (employees from the Ministry or pillar agencies are excluded), with long-term employment planned.
5. Be able to provide evidence of their current residential address and their relocation residential address.
6. Not previously received the New Graduate Nursing and Midwifery Rural Support Incentive.

* PLEASE NOTE: New graduate registered nurses and midwives who already reside in one of the specified rural LHD locations and are employed in their local District are not eligible for this incentive.
